Life Orientation and an achievement level of 1 in a subject are not considered in the calculation of the Admission Point Score (APS). 2. Prospective students will not be admitted to any programme without prior evaluation. 3. TUT requires a National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent qualification, with a minimum of six subjects, including English (home or first additional language with a minimum score of 3), Mathematics (Technical Mathematics) or Mathematical Literacy (as per specific academic programme requirement) and the further subjects required by a specific academic programme. 4. Prospective students may apply on the basis of Grade 11 or mid-year Grade 12 results and may be granted provisional admission pending the final submission of Grade 12 results. Important: TUT admission requirements for entry-level programmes adhere to national legislation and therefore the following are required: • Bachelor’s degrees: at least four subjects at performance level 4. • Diplomas: at least four subjects at performance level 3. Alternatively, prospectus can be downloaded from the link: https://www.tut.ac.za/study-at-tut/ ALTERNATIVE AND INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS ACCEPTANCE IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABLE CAPACITY ACCORDING TO THE STUDENT ENROLMENT PLAN (SEP) Alternative and international qualifications (HIGSCE, IGCSE, NSSC A&O Level, IB Higher and Standard Level, etc) are dealt with in a specific manner: • While there is a legal imperative to submit the certificate of equivalence (issued by SAQA or the CHE) it is recommended that the application process be initiated while the application for certificate is in process. • The Tshwane University of Technology cannot obtain this certificate on your behalf. CONVERSION OF ALTERNATIVE/EQUIVALENT RECOGNISED CERTIFICATES The following table and accompanying information gives an indication of how the University will evaluate the various certificates that may be offered as equivalent to the National Senior Certificate (SA). Where possible, the University will evaluate the listed qualifications as indicated. However, the University has the right to refer any application to the formal application processes through the Senate. In accordance with HESA requirements, a minimum score of 1600 is needed for admission to a degree, with a subminimum of not less than 500 for Critical Reading and Mathematics and 550 for Writing. The percentiles on the SAT certificate can be used to derive scores for Mathematics and English, as indicated in the table above. The student’s college entrance certificate (such as the certificate issued by the ACE School of Tomorrow) or individual SAT subject tests should be used for the scores of any other subjects required. Life Orientation and an achievement level of 1 in a subject are not considered in the calculation of the Admission Point Score (APS). RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING, STATUS AND EQUIVALENCE Candidates may also apply at the Office of the Registrar for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or for admission via the Senate’s discretionary route. The specific relevant documentation will be requested from these applicants, and these cases will be handled on an individual basis. Information on the rules and the process to follow is available in Chapter 30 of Students’ Rules and Regulations (Part 1 of the Prospectus). HOW TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION To apply for admission, visit www.tut.ac.za PLEASE NOTE • You must have all the required documentation at hand before going online. • Create an email address before hand, do not use any other person’s email address. • Your password must meet the following requirements: at least six to 12 characters long - containing a mix of numbers, letters, one special character and one uppercase letter. • First-year/undergraduate applications for the 2027 academic year open on 1 April 2026. • The application deadlines are listed under each programme in this brochure. • Please apply as soon as possible because a programme may close any time when it is full, even if the deadline has not yet passed. APPLICATION FEE • • • The application fee for the 2027 academic year is R240 (two hundred and forty rand). This fee is compulsory for all first-time applicants and is payable once only. The application fee is strictly non-refundable. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS • Proof of payment – The application fee must be deposited at ABSA, Account Number: 04 000 000 3. Use your Identity Number as the reference. • Certified copy of your Identity Document/Card • Certified copy of your National Senior Certificate, or Final Grade 11 results if you are currently in Grade 12 ADMISSION STATUS To check your admission status, please follow the steps below: 1. Visit www.tut.ac.za 2. Click on “Study@TUT.” 3. Select “Check Your Status.” 4. Enter your ID number in the required field. 5. Click “Submit” to view your admission status. A new screen will appear displaying your reference number. Your admission status will be shown, and you will have the option to view and print a copy of the available letter. NSFAS The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial aid to academically deserving and financially needy students who wish to study at a public tertiary institution.
