It’s a question we get a lot. Our current students always answer wherever they live. Our on-campus or town residences are the heartbeat of our student life. NWU also offers private accommodation to fit your needs. All our accommodation is located near dining halls and close to campus so you can be there in a few minutes. Find your home away from home, click here PAGE 4How to apply for residence placement at NWU? Applying for residence placement is a two-step process: 1. Indicate your interest: During your application for university admission, please select “Yes” or “No” from the drop-down menu on the “Additional Information” screen of the application platform when asked: “Interested in NWU residence placement?” 2. Apply: After receiving and accepting your conditional offer, you will have the opportunity to apply for residence via the StarRez Portal, select your top three (3) residence choices, and provide a motivation for your application. • Please note that the residence options available will be based on the campus where you received your conditional offer. The Residence Department will assess and approve your application if you meet the criteria. Once your application is accepted, you must pay a non-refundable security deposit within 21 days to confirm your place in the residence. • Important note: Students who have applied for NSFAS, or are funded by another bursary, and can provide proof thereof, you do not need to pay the deposit. Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s Degree • Obtain a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or International Secondary Certificate (ISC), issued by Umalusi, which also indicates that you meet the requirements for a bachelor’s degree. • An NSC with a minimum of 50% in any four NSC 20-credit subjects. • APS is calculated using six subjects, excluding Life Orientation. • Subject-specific requirements per faculty, which include the language of learning and teaching at 50%. For more information, click here PAGE 5The Admission Point Score (APS) helps universities assess whether you meet the entry requirements for the programme you’ve applied to. It’s a simple, standardised way to evaluate your academic performance. How is your APS calculated? Your APS is calculated using the marks from your six best subjects in Grade 11 or Grade 12 – excluding Life Orientation. Each subject is awarded points based on the percentage you achieved: If you attended a private or international school, including those offering the Cambridge International Curriculum, you can still calculate your Admission Point Score (APS) to check if you meet the entry requirements for NWU programmes. Use the APS Conversion Table on the NWU website to convert your international results to the South African system.
