Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2027 Applications

This guide provides straightforward insights for your 2027 studies at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), based strictly on the official 2026/2027 student course brochure.

Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2027

Applying for a DUT online application requires using the Central Applications Office (CAO) system. As a university of technology, DUT focuses on practical skills and career readiness across its campuses in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

• The CAO System: You do not apply directly to DUT. You must submit your application through the CAO portal. This allows you to select up to six choices across various institutions in KwaZulu-Natal for a single application fee.
• Application Fee: The CAO requires a non-refundable fee of R250 for on-time applications. If you apply after 31 October, the fee increases for late status.
• APS Calculation (No LO): DUT calculates your Admission Point Score (APS) using your six best subjects. Life Orientation is strictly excluded from this calculation.
• Subject-Specific Requirements: Many diplomas at DUT have "minimum" requirements that are higher than the standard pass. For example, a Diploma in Hospitality Management requires a Level 4 for English and a Level 3 for Mathematics or Accounting.
• Campus Specialisation: DUT is spread across multiple sites (such as Steve Biko, ML Sultan, and Indumiso). Ensure you check which campus hosts your specific faculty, as your residence choice will depend on your lecture location.

Important DUT 2027 Application Dates

• 1 March 2026: Applications officially open via the CAO.
• 30 September 2026: Closing date for most undergraduate programmes.
• 31 October 2026: Final date for "on-time" administration fees; applications submitted after this are considered late.

2027 Admission Comparison: DUT vs Other Universities

The table below compares DUT with other technical and comprehensive institutions to help you understand the differences in costs and application methods.

By comparing these details, you can see that DUT shares a similar application process with UKZN through the CAO. If you are looking for a career-focused qualification but want to avoid the CAO fee, you might consider the CPUT online application or the UJ online application steps and dates. Always verify the specific 2027 Courses Requirements for your diploma before submitting your CAO form.
