This guide provides straightforward insights for your 2027 studies at Walter Sisulu University (WSU), based strictly on the official undergraduate admission requirements.
Walter Sisulu University (WSU) 2027 Application
Applying for a WSU online application is unique because of its multi-campus structure and specific "Category" system for calculating points.
- Free Online Applications: WSU does not charge an application fee for South African or international students who apply through the official online portal.
- The Three-Choice System: You can select up to three qualification choices on your application. The system automatically assesses your results and will "grey out" any courses for which you do not meet the minimum criteria.
- APS Calculation Categories: WSU uses different calculation methods. For most degrees (Category 1 & 2), the APS is the sum of your best six subjects, excluding Life Orientation. However, specific programmes (Category 3) may include Life Orientation in the final count.
- Campus-Based Faculties: WSU is spread across four main campuses, each specializing in different fields. For example, Medicine and Health Sciences are at the Mthatha Campus, while Engineering and IT are primarily at the Buffalo City (East London) Campus.
- The 40% Rule: To enter any Bachelor’s degree at WSU, you must have an achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) or better in four recognised subjects. For Diplomas, you need a rating of 3 (40–49%) in four recognised subjects.
