Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) 2027 Application Guide

This guide provides straightforward insights for your 2027 studies at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT), based strictly on the official undergraduate admission guidelines and the Central Applications Office (CAO) procedures.

Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) 2027

Applying for a MUT online application requires navigating the centralised system used by institutions in the KwaZulu-Natal province. MUT is known for its strong focus on Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Management Sciences.

• The CAO Centralised System: Like other KZN institutions, you do not apply directly to MUT. You must apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO). This allows you to list MUT alongside other universities in the region.
• Application Fee: The CAO requires a non-refundable fee of R250 for on-time applications. Paying this fee covers all your choices (up to six) on the CAO form.
• APS Calculation (No LO): MUT calculates your Admission Point Score (APS) using your six best subjects. Life Orientation is strictly excluded from the points total, although you must achieve a minimum of a Level 3 (40%) to satisfy general NSC requirements.
• Mathematics vs. Maths Literacy: Most Engineering and Science programmes at MUT strictly require Pure Mathematics. Mathematical Literacy is generally only considered for specific diplomas in the Faculty of Management Sciences.
• CAO Ranking Strategy: MUT often receives a high volume of applications. It is strategically important to place your preferred MUT course as your first or second choice on the CAO form to ensure you are considered before the programmes reach capacity.

Important MUT 2027 Application Dates

• 1 March 2026: Applications officially open via the CAO.
• 30 September 2026: General closing date for most undergraduate programmes at MUT.
• 31 October 2026: Final date for "on-time" fee payments; any applications or payments after this date are processed as late and incur a higher fee.
