Detailed UCT 2027 Courses Requirements

Meeting the minimum UCT 2027 Courses Requirements is necessary for eligibility but does not guarantee admission due to limited capacity.

Core Scoring Systems

  • Admission Points Score (APS): Calculated from your six best subjects, excluding Life Orientation.
  • Faculty Points Score (FPS): The APS is sometimes adapted (e.g., in Science and Health Sciences) to create a ranking score.
  • Weighted Points Score (WPS): For South African applicants, the FPS is adjusted by a “disadvantage factor” (0%–10%, or up to 20% for Health Sciences) to promote diversity.

Faculty-Specific Requirement Highlights

  • Commerce: Requires the NBT Academic and Quantitative Literacy (AQL) test. Applicants need a minimum of 60% in Mathematics for most specialisations.
  • Engineering & the Built Environment: Requires NBTs in Mathematics, AL, and QL. For Civil Engineering, a minimum of 80% in Mathematics and 70% in Physical Sciences is required for guaranteed admission.
  • Health Sciences: Extremely competitive; MBChB requires NBT scores in the “Proficient” range and a sub-minimum APS of 450.
  • Humanities: Applicants generally only need to write the AQL component of the NBT. A minimum of 50% for English Home Language or 60% for English First Additional Language is required.
  • Science: The FPS is calculated out of 800 by doubling Mathematics and Physical Sciences scores.

National Benchmark Tests (NBTs)

All undergraduate applicants resident in South Africa, and all Health Science and Commerce applicants regardless of residence, must write the NBTs. Registration for these tests opens on 1 April 2026.
