University of the Western Cape (UWC) 2027 Application Strategic Insights
The UWC online applications process is unique because it is free and uses a specific weighted points system that differs significantly from other institutions.
- Weighted Points System: UWC uses a specific table to calculate points. For example, a Level 7 (90–100%) in Mathematics or English gives you 15 points, while the same level in another subject gives you 8 points.
- Life Orientation Matters: Unlike many universities that exclude it, UWC includes Life Orientation in your points tally, awarding up to 3 points for a Level 7.
- Minimum Entry Thresholds: To be considered for any degree, you must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) Bachelors pass with a minimum achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) in four subjects.
- Selection Deadlines: While most programmes close in late September, high-demand courses like Dentistry (BDS) and Oral Health (BOH) have an earlier closing date of 31 August 2026.
- Document Certification: When you apply, ensure your certified documents are recent. UWC requires that certification is not older than three months.
