GENERAL INSTITUTIONAL APPLICATION RULES NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS Application submission and responsibility With POPIA in place, the university requires all applications to be completed by the applicant themselves. Errors arising from applications completed by parents, guardians, or third parties can negatively impact the selection process. Applicants are responsible for the accuracy of the data submitted via the university’s application process. Application ranking The university uses a ranking system when making final selections in January, where all applicants are ranked from highest to lowest based on their APS regardless when grade 12 was completed or when the applicant has applied at the university. Applying for extended programmes Extended programmes are strictly limited to first-time entering applicants. These are candidates with no previous studies at NQF Level 6 or higher. 2027 UNDERGRADUATE PROSPECTUS 13academic record and final school leaving results must be submitted for selection purposes. Previous studies must be declared upon application: a regardless of whether the application is in the same or in a different field of study; b regardless of whether the studies were cancelled prior to completion; and c should the applicant wish to carry over any credits. Mature age exemption Applying to study using a mature age exemption does not guarantee admission. Applicants must still meet the minimum entry requirements set by the university. Qualification limitations The Faculty of Law does not accept NCV, NASCA and ASC, and the GED (General Education Development) is not accepted by the university for selection or admission across all faculties. South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) International applicants are required to submit a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) certificate of evaluation for all foreign qualifications. SAQA verifies the authenticity of the documents, confirms that the issuing institutions are accredited in their respective countries, and ensures that the qualifications form part of the official national qualification framework. Once verified, SAQA determines the appropriate placement of the qualification on the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for admission purposes. Transfer applicants All applicants, including those transferring from other higher education institutions, must apply using UJ’s online application system. Selection for undergraduate programmes is based on meeting the minimum entry requirements based on final Grade 12 results as well as meeting faculty requirements based on the academic merit of the institution the applicant is transferring from. Professional nurses provide services five days a week at each Centre, while sessional doctors visit once weekly for serious problems referred by Professional nurses. The Centre primarily offers primary health care to students, focusing on acute illnesses, acne treatment, mental health examinations and management, and referrals to PsyCaD for counseling. Sexual reproductive health encompasses contraception distribution, STI screening and management, cervical cancer screening (Pap smear), pregnancy testing, and referral to safe abortion facilities. One of the essential services provided by the Centre is health promotion, which is done through campaigns, health expos, and on UJfm. The center shares premises with an occupational health clinic for employees.
